SHAKEDOWN STREET - THIS TITLE IS TREMENDOUSLY RARE OUT OF PRINT AND THE MAIN PRIZE OF THIS COLLECTION.

THIS TITLE IS THE ANCHOR FOR THE SET. Is a fascinating listen - classic sounds from a classic band. Even the jacket artwork is classic. The Grateful Dead led by Jerry Garcia were one of the cornerstones of'60s counterculture - the band had lots of members from diverse musical backgrounds, each lending a different facet to the band's sound and approach to music. Is their tenth studio album and is definitive Dead - essential to any serious rock collection, a fusion of rock, funk, blues, reggae, country and improvisational jam.

Produced by Lowell George of Little Feat - the union between George and the Grateful Dead was certainly intriguing. The album features Garcia and Bog Weir on vocals and guitars, Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, Keith Godchaux on vocals and keyboards, Donna Jean Godchaux on vocals and Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart on percussion. From The Heart Of Me.

TAS Rated 4/5 Music, 4/5 Sonics in the January 2011 Issue of The Absolute Sound! Deluxe 180g 5LP Box Set Mastered From Original Analog Masters by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios and Pressed at RTI! Between 1967 and 1970, the Grateful Dead recorded five studio albums for Warner Bros.

Records that formed the psychedelic canon on which the bands live legend was built. Each LP's cover has been meticulously reproduced, the 180-gram vinyl pressed at RTI from freshly-cut lacquers mastered from the original analog tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Studios, and a full-size booklet with a few never-before-published photos... " - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, Janaury 2011, Issue 209 "... When it comes to focus, overall clarity, balance, dynamic punch, and bottom-end weight, which are hallmarks of [these] Rhino's reissues. As to Phil Lesh's marvelous and important bass playing - the clarity of line, and his round, almost creamy tone - is one of the great joys of this new set.

These new LPs knock the others, including the CD box, right off my shelf. Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, Janaury 2011, Issue 209 Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Workingmans Dead and American Beauty with THE WARNER BROS. STUDIO ALBUMS, a five-LP boxed set. The collection contains The Grateful Dead (1967), Workingmans Dead, and American Beauty (1970), plus the original mixes for Anthem Of The Sun (1968) and Aoxomoxoa (1969), available on vinyl for the first time in nearly 40 years.

The original mixes for Anthem of the Sun and Aoxomoxoa featured here for the first time since they were released went out of circulation in 1972 and 1971 respectively. Garcia and Lesh revisited Aoxomoxoa two years after its release in an effort to cut through the dense mix, which was a result of the bands extensive experimenting in the studio with one of the first 16-track recorders. The overhaul changed the albums sound significantly, including the end of Doin That Rag, which originally closed with an a cappella vocal coda that was later removed. The set also offers detailed replicas of the original albums housed in a hard-shell case that protects and stores the music with the accompanying 12" x 12" book including unpublished photos and new liner notes by Blair Jackson.

To ensure the highest degree of quality, the albums were pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI using lacquers cut from the original analog masters by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Ron "Pigpen" McKernan organ, harmonica, percussion, vocals. Live Performance at Fillmore Auditorium 11/19/66 On Vinyl LP! A recording of a cult event: The Grateful Dead, live at the Fillmore Auditorium on November 19th, 1966. Recorded before their first album came out (1967), this record features three primeval versions of tunes from their debut record and eight goodies, standards and originals, that were not featured on any official studio and live recording up to 1970's Workingman's Dead. This recording brings you right there, on a magic night in November 1966, when psychedelic rock was still something fresh and exciting and the emerging hippie movement had not exploded yet. That came half a year later with the invasion of Haight-Ashbury. But these recordings are not only of historical importance, their musical value is amazing. The band smokes on stage throughout the performance. The sound is muggy for sure, but each instrument comes through as it should and the simmering duels of guitar and organ make your head swirl.

This album will certainly make the young generation of'60s music aficionados go crazy. A new beautiful cover artwork and great overall sound quality restoration make this album a joyful experience... And be sure that something like the 17+ minute version of "In The Midnight Hour" will have rarely hit your turntable. The overall atmosphere is just haunting.

The release is reminiscent of early Doors or Iron Butterfly live recordings. A band at its prime with the world to gain and nothing to lose. Beat It On Down The Line. He Was A Friend Of Mine. THESE FRIDAY MUSIC TITLES ARE BRAND NEW BUT DO NOT COME TRADITIONALLY SEALED WITH TIGHT PLASTIC WRAP.
